Health Alert
Escambia Treating Company Superfund Site

PENSACOLA – The Escambia County Health Department is issuing a precautionary health advisory for individuals who may live or work near the Escambia Treating Company Superfund site at 3910 North Palafox where soil excavation and clean-up is taking place. The digging of soil may produce dust particles and release certain odors. Exposure to airborne dust particles and/or odors may produce respiratory symptoms such as nose and throat irritation as well as eye irritation in some individuals. People experiencing symptoms, including those with severe or chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma or chronic lung disease, should consult their physician for advice and should stay inside. While inside, individuals should close windows, run their heating or cooling system, and change their system’s filter, as needed. If symptoms persist while inside a home with conditioned air, individuals may choose to leave the area until their symptoms are more tolerable.
