ADELPHI, Md. (AP) - Concerned over potentially deadly overdoses of acetaminophen, government experts are proposing new restrictions
on the most widely-used painkiller.

Acetaminophen is the main ingredient in Tylenol and other popular pain killers.

An FDA advisory panel recommends reducing the maximum dose of Tylenol and eliminating prescription drugs such as Vicodin and
Percocet which combine acetaminophen with other pain killers.

Acetaminophen overdosing is the leading cause of liver failure in the U.S. It sends 56,000 people to the emergency room annually.
About 200 die each year.

The panel voted against a proposal to pull NyQuil and other over-the-counter cold and cough medicines that combine
acetaminophen with other drugs.

The FDA is not required to follow the advice of its panels, though it usually does.

Analyst Steve Brozak of WBB Securities said the panel votes were a "shot across the bow" of the pharmaceutical industry.

Well, I have had a bunch of heparin pumped into me over the years and I see Robert Goldwater, Attorney at Law, telling me to call his 800 number every five minutes on TV.  So, I betcha it won’t be long until there are lawsuits about Acetaminophen.

That’s why you take as directed & consult you doctor if your on any other meds. duh common sense!!

LOL. I think everyone has known what taking too much of anything can do to you. I never thought I would see the day when they were thinking about taking headache and cold medicines off the shelves because people are not bright enough to read the labels. I surely am not going to have to go to the doctor to just get a prescription for an over the counter medication. I know what is wrong and what I need to take. Wait I take back to comment on cold medicine. I had heard that kids and teens were guzzling it down and getting “drunk” off the stuff. How they can do that I have no clue. That stuff taste horrible. Then again when you are looking and desperate for a high you will do anything. I mean going shrum picking in cow manure???

People that take over the counter medications and prescriptions drugs need to start listening to the side effects of the medicine they are taking. Why would you take medicine for a muscle pain that only gives temporary relief and over time you become very ill or even get cancer or have a heart attack? When the medication is advertised on TV or given to you at a drug store and you sign that little signature stating you understand the consequences and side effects of the medicine, be worn you cannot sue that pharmaceutical company that makes that medicine. There are some medications people are taking right now that shut down the lymph system that cleans toxins out of the body. Which causes Lymphoma cancer? More and more children and young adults are getting this deadly cancer which is a drug induced cancer.

I’ve taken a whole lot of Tylenol over the years…... who do I sue?  Or, do I just wait for that guy to pop up on TV with the 800 number?  LOL

Yeah. Acetaminophen, although most think can not be abused, can be very dangerous if not used properly. Liver failure is a common factor in a lot of deaths these days. People do not see much of a problem with taking things such as, Tylenol Tylenol PM or other over the counter meds, because there is no immediate consequence. Same with alcoholics. It may not kill you now but sooner or later it will catch up to you. Sadly I have lost family members to these things so I have seen first hand what not taking care of you body and carefully monitoring what you put in your body. However, I do not think that they should be taking these medications off the shelf. Just because some may abuse the medications does not mean all will.

Glamblitz, the overdose level for tylenol is quite low. Your information is incorrect. Even slightly overdosing over time can do severe liver damage. Someone with impaired liver function is at risk. If you drink and take acetamenophen you can OD and kill your liver function. This is why it is an issue to the FDA at this time. Too many consumers have taken it OTC in combination with other meds and not heeded warnings. The company has it’s own commercials that address this.

The only way you would od on tylenol is if you are suicidal. tylenol is like the safest otc painkiller. it’s the only you can take while pregnant. it’s just another government scheme to control us.

I had a doctor tell me that most of the fda regulations are bs. & if doctors did everything the fda recommends we would like our doctors too much.

RMSEEK. I don’t always find the ingredients easy to locate and read. It’s not BIG AND BOLD. Or at least not the last time I went hunting
Look at that Nyquil Box or the Benadryl box. Maybe I need glasses. I had to turn the box over and over to find the ingredients and MGs.

yea, yea, and to much alcohol and lets do away with nicotine. Sugar is making people fat so it has to go and milk cows are farting so they have to go as well. Drink soy.  This health message has been brought to you by the ANHB (American Nazi Health Board) a proud member of the obamanation heath care system.
