LifeSouth Community Blood Centers are making an emergency appeal for blood donors of all blood types.LifeSouth Director of District Operations, Ed Downey, explained that the cause of this emergency is due to low donor turn out and increased hospital usage. Both of these factors have led to this critical shortage of blood on the shelves at our local hospitals. The need for blood, particularly for cancer and trauma patients, does not diminish during the summer months.
All of LifeSouth’s donor centers will be extending their hours to meet this emergency need. In addition to the centers, there will be blood drives at many locations. To find a donor center or a blood drive near you, call 888.979.2707.
If you are a qualified blood donor, please donate blood today. Anyone 17 or older, in good health and weighing at least 110 pounds is eligible to donate.

17 or older?? I see they’ve lowered their standards! You used to have to be 18, that’s why I could never donate when they came to the high schools. It was so unfair, the other seniors got free pizza and tee-shirts, and I had to stay in class!
