MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's top doctor is expected toissue a list of recommendations today regarding staph infections.
The germ (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is
associated with skin infections, but also causes blood infections,
pneumonia and other illnesses.
Clusters of staph infections have recently been reported in
Alabama schools.
To reduce the possibility of getting a staph infection, federal
health officials have recommended washing hands, not sharing
personal items such as towels and razors, keeping wounds clean and
covered, and not coming into contact with others' bandages or
wounds.
State Health Officer Doctor Donald Williamson will meet with the
media at a 2 p.m. news conference in Montgomery.
