NAHARIYA, Israel, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A premature baby discovered to be alive in the morgue of an Israeli hospital five hours after she was declared stillborn died Tuesday after a day of life.

The infant, who weighed little more than a pound, had at best a 10 percent chance of survival, said Ziv Farber, a spokesman for the Nahariya Hospital.

When she was born Monday, doctors pronounced the girl stillborn and she was taken to the hospital morgue. Her father, Ali Majdub, said five hours later his wife expressed a desire to say one last goodbye to the child.

"When we unwrapped the baby to see her, she realized it was moving," Majdub told Channel 2. "I began screaming and ran with it toward the doctors."

The baby was placed in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Dr. Moshe Daniel, the hospital's executive director, said the Health Ministry will decide whether an investigation is needed. He said adults have been known to revive after almost freezing to death because the cold slowed down their metabolism and oxygen use, but he had never heard of a similar phenomenon with a baby.

Mustuknow, thanks for the condolences! Its amazing how were given things in life then they can be suddenly taken away. Losing my son taught me a lot about life it transformed me from who I used to be. I did go on to have a healthy baby boy the next year who was born at 34 wks, he’s now 3 and keeping me on my toes! I love him dearly, but losing a child is something that never fades away! I can remember every detail of that horrible day and will grieve till the day I die.  Thanks again and I’m sorry for anyone who’s experienced the loss of there child.

Touching Mom2AngelBaby.  Your comment makes me understand you screen name and I would like to express my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your little one.  My son was born at 32 weeks 18 years ago and is thriving well today.  It was by the Grace of God and Excellent care from Sacred Heart NICU in Pcola and to both I will be eternally grateful.  I share that with you because my parents had a stillborn baby daughter born at 32 weeks in 1960, actually I think she lived for a few minutes, but they were not allowed to name her, if they would have her name would have been the name they gave me some 10 years later.  One final note, she was born on my nephews birthday and buried on my birthdate.  For years my parents would not talk about her or her death or burial.  I feel eternally blessed that God gave me the opportunity to raise my son, it was hard for my parents when they first saw him because it brought back so many memories.  Bless you and your angel.

This has touched me in a very deep way. As our son was stillborn in Feb 2004. My heart goes out to this couple! Its sad but chilling to know that he wanted to feel the pressence of his parents one last time…“Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep I Pray The Lord My Soul To Keep”
