The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers about a liquid dietary supplement that can cause significant hair loss, muscle cramps, diarrhea, joint pain and fatigue.Total Body Formula (Orange/Peach Nectar flavors) and Total Body Mega Formula (Orange/Tangerine flavors) have been distributed to 15 states including Alabama and Florida.
According to the FDA advisory, the Total Body Formula products are sold in eight-ounce and 32-ounce plastic bottles. The Total Body Mega Formula is sold in 32-ounce plastic bottles only.
The Florida health department says 23 people experienced serious reactions to these products 7 to 10 days after first taking them. ingestion. In all cases, the reactions included significant hair loss, muscle cramps, diarrhea, joint pain and fatigue. The FDA is also is investigating a report of similar cases in Tennessee.
The FDA advises consumers in all states to avoid using the products and throw them away immediately. Anyone who's been taking the products and have experienced adverse reactions should call their doctor and the FDA's MedWatch program at 800-FDA-1088.
