NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Coast Guard says it rescued a Mississippi
man who was bitten by a shark while fishing Saturday near Breton
Island off the Louisiana coast.
Petty Officer Tom Atkeson said in a press release that the
56-year-old man from Jackson had been a passenger on a boat called
the Predator about 65 miles southeast of New Orleans in Breton
Sound.
He says a Coast Guard helicopter rescue crewman was lowered to
the boat and brought the man up to the helicopter, which took him
to New Orleans. The helicopter was met by an ambulance, which took
the man to a hospital.
The Coast Guard did not release the man's name, and Atkeson said
he did not know his condition.

Gulf:  Ahhh, I can see where rotor wash could cause the boat to capsize, I didn’t think of that until your post.

I have done a large amount of training with CG helicopters. We always had to be moving. It keeps the boat from being blown about too much by the chopper.

Ok - WKRG, please tell us how the man got bitten by a shark in a boat and then tell us why the boat was retreating from the rescue helicopter.  I am also impressed by the coast guard…but the questions that this story prompts are just strange.

I saw that on Tv and wondered why the boat didn’t stop for the retrieval of the man.It would have seemed to be safer for all involved .I think the Coast guard’s finest hour,or one of the biggest ones, was during the Katrina hours. While all the other services and Government departments were sitting on their hands, waiting to be told what to do,the Coast Guard dove right in and started rescuing people and helping, even after being advised to wait and see by some who seemed to not know what to do in an Emergency! They rate way up the scale,if not the top,on esteem and doing their jobs by me.Another good job well done.

Hummm…. After watching the video myself I wonder why the boat never stopped… I guess they had their reasons…. But like I said these guys are awsome.

rm…. Makes you wonder since the story never says where the man was when bitten. One can only assume he was doing some underwater sight seeing.

eee… Yeah, the guys that do this stuff are awsome…. Being a Coast Guard brat myself I have had the pleasure of watching these guys practice.
They know there stuff and have their S*** in order.

I watched the video…these guys are good.

So the shark came up to the boat??? That’s pretty scary!
