The weight loss business is booming. According to the FDA, every year Americans spend billions of dollars on the latest slimming solutions and most end up disappointed. In this age of fad diets, diet aids and weight loss surgery. The truly amazing weight loss stories are those that unfold the old fashioned way.
They say nothing worth having comes easy and that’s certainly true when it comes to weight loss. There’s still no magic pill and no easy way out. Most of the time true, long term success only comes from what we’ve known all along: You lose weight when you eat less and exercise more.
This report is about two amazing people who may inspire you to start making some changes in your own life.
Kemichelle Taylor takes a look at the woman she was 4 years ago. “This woman in this picture, she was not happy with the way she looked. I didn’t have a lot of energy or motivation. So I guess I could say I really wasn’t all that happy.”
In 2003, Kemichelle weighed 389 pounds. Today she doesn’t even look like the same person. She’s lost more than 200 pounds with little more than sheer determination. “I knew it was now or never and it wasn’t a short term commitment. It had to be a long term lifestyle change.”
Kemichelle hit the gym and revamped her eating habits. She ate less and exercised more. It worked and it’s still working. Her all natural weight loss has even attracted national attention. She was featured in USA Today.
There was another weight loss story that really wowed us. It’s the story of one of our own. Steven Norris is a 22 year old newscast producer. He’s almost 100 pounds lighter than he was just a few years ago.
Steven says,” I think it got to a point that I didn’t want to weight myself anymore, but I know I was pushing 300 pounds.” He was embarrassed by his weight. “I would have never admitted that. I would always lie about my weight. I would not want to admit to myself that I was at 300 pounds.”
But one day on a shopping trip Steven was finally able to admit he had a serious weight problem. “Realizing that I was in a 2X shirt or a size 42 waist, it was just, probably that’s when I realized that I’m letting myself go and I’ve got to do something to get this in check.”
At age 18 he made a commitment to turn things around by eating less and exercising more. “I’m hovering around 200. I would like to get below and I can get there, but from where I was it’s been such a big change that I’d just rather feel healthy, you know be able to fit in the kind of clothes that I want to wear and be happy with that.”
Both Steven and Kemichelle say they’re happier and healthier and they truly believe you can be too.
Kemichelle says, “It’s really important that we decide to take stock with ourselves and decide why we want to do it and why we need to do it and make sure those reasons is long lasting. And then take steps to do something about it.”
Steven agrees, “You have to be willing to make a change and do something different.”
“If I can do it,” says Kemichelle, “they can do it. Without surgeries, without the fad diets, just being motivated, dedicated and committed to living healthier lifestyles.”
