For kids with certain types of epilepsy, a change in diet can make all the difference. Doctors say a ketogenic diet can help.
Rich in fat and low in carbohydrates, it can reduce and sometimes even stop seizures in kids with certain types of epilepsy.
"One condition is infantile spasms, another one's called tuberous sclerosis. And another one is called Doose syndrome or myoclonic-astatic epilepsy and now in retrospect, it's probably the case that Gracie had this condition," said Pediatric Neurologist Dr. Eric Kossoff.
Doctors typically use the ketogenic diet in kids only after medications have failed. now, in certain cases, the diet is the first line of treatment.
