There was a special honor Thursday for a Pace, Florida man who only now is receiving some of the awards he earned during his military service starting 58 years ago.87 year old Floyd Enfinger is a veteran of World War Two.
He served aboard the USS Philadelphia.
Enfinger had heard word that there were awards that had never been given to those who served on his ship during the war.
Enfinger said, "I went to (Florida) Congressman Jeff Miller and told him my story and they went to the Navy."
Miller said, "Our office went to work on making sure that he got everything that he had earned and everything that he deserved."
Enfinger received thirteen awards, including the World War Two Victory Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Miller said, "To see a gentleman who still fits in the very uniform that he wore when he retired from the United States Navy, it's not a wonder that this is such a great nation."
Enfinger can look to the future through his grandson, who joined the Marines.
Marine Lance Corporal Robert Wedlund said, "I'm not much for words. I am proud of him. He's my grandpa. I've known him since my whole life."
When asked how he felt about finally receiving all the awards he earned, Enfinger said, "I'm so happy that I was able to serve our country during time of war."
