A Gulf Breeze youth sports organization has placed a Assistant U.S. Attorney on leave pending the outcome of charges in Michigan. Roy Atchison is charged with traveling to Detroit to have sex with a five-year-old girl. Detectives in Michigan say Atchison spent weeks communicating by computer with who he thought was the mother of a five-year-old girl. Atchison was actually talking to an undercover police officer. Investigators say the Assistant U.S. Attorney based in Pensacola purchased earrings and a Dora The Explorer doll to give to the girl.

Atchison lives in Gulf Breeze and has been active in the Gulf Breeze Sports Association for the past 10 years. At the time of his arrest, he was President of the youth athletic organization. Tuesday afternoon, the group released this written statement to News 5 reporter Debbie Williams.

"Statement from the Gulf Breeze Sports Association
A community volunteer organization

Roy Atchison has been a valued member of the Gulf Breeze community and the Gulf Breeze Sports Association for the past decade. He will be on a leave of absence as President of the Gulf Breeze Sports Association until outcome of the case. The board will continue to administer and oversee sports for the Gulf Breeze community.

Mike Mabry – Vice President Gulf Breeze Sports Association"

Atchison is scheduled to appear in a Detroit federal courtroom this afternoon. WKRG will have the latest developments tonight on News 5 at Five and Six.
