GREENVILLE, Ala. (AP) - One person was killed and two otherswere severely injured after a van collided with an 18-wheeler on
Interstate 65 in Greenville.
Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon said three people were
traveling south in the minivan Tuesday when it crossed the median
and hit the tanker that was in the northbound lanes.
The van's driver was killed and the two passengers were
transported to a local hospital. The driver of the tanker truck was
not seriously injured.
McLendon said the impact was so forceful that it flipped the
18-wheeler over on its side. The truck was carrying the highly
flammable chemical ether and it began dripping after the wreck.
Hazardous material crews were working to clean the scene of the
wreck, which occurred around 10 a.m. Tuesday. McLendon said the
interstate would remain closed into the evening.
