It was a big night for News 5 at The 28th Annual Press Club of Mobile Excellence In Journalism Awards. WKRG was honored with seven of the 11 awards presented during a ceremony at The Exploreum. News 5 swept the Best Anchor category.
Best Anchor: Rose Ann Haven
Best Weather Anchor: John Nodar
Best Sports Anchor: Randy Patrick
Holly Ames was honored with the Best Feature Reporting award for a story on her very personal battle with Bulimia. WKRG photojournalist Gary Arnold was presented the Photography award for his compelling visual images in "Dying To Live"; a story about a local woman's courageous fight against cancer. News 5 was also honored for online journalism. www.wkrg.com was named Best Website.
News 5's Kellie Jones was presented with the John Harris Lifetime Achievement Award. Kellie is a former WKRG anchor who continues to work at News 5 as an Assignment Manager. Kellie also served as Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Jeremiah Denton, and has reported on some of the biggest stories in Mobile, including hurricanes and the Amtrak disaster.
