A Mobile woman will soon sleep a lot safer once repairs are made on her home. Monday emergency crews received a call saying that someone was trying to commit suicide at a home on Belvedere Circle. When they arrived, no one came to the door so fire fighters had to force their way inside. The call turned out to be a prank and the owner, Rosa McCants, was not even home. Unfortunately, the forced entry left plenty of damage to her front door.
McCants couldn't leave because there was no way to lock it. When she called to complain, she said she was told that she had to file a claim form.
"Why have I got to fill out a claim and wait until they decide they go in meetings and decide we'll get to this six months later," said Rosa McCants of Mobile.
"Our guys, the only recourse they had when they got there, they couldn't get anybody to the door, was to break-in. Had we not broken in and there had been somebody in there that would've been a lot worse," said Mobile-Fire Rescue Spokesperson Steve Huffman.
McCant's door should be be fixed by Thursday but not every case is that simple.
If you believe the city of Mobile is responsible for damage to your property, you have to file a claim form with the city clerk's office.
Officials will review your case and determine if the city is liable.
