GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Officials with the Institute of Marine
Animal Studies in Gulfport say they plan to study the carcass of
what is believed to be a Pygmy Killer Whale.
The carcass washed ashore near the Chevron Refinery in
Pascagoula a month ago.
Researcher Delphine Vanderpool said yesterday (Thursday) that
the whale carcass will be exhumed several months from now.
Vanderpool told The Mississippi Press newspaper of Pascagoula
that once nature takes it course, the skeleton will be reassembled
to use as a learning tool.
The 6-foot, 250-pound whale was found on the Chevron beach April
19.
