In less than two weeks, voters who live in sections of West Mobile will decide if they want to annex into the city. In a Wednesday morning news conference, a group called The Committee of Citizens Against Annexation said voters need to think twice before heading to the polls. "All your taxes are going to go up on gasoline. You go to Walmart. Instead of paying seven percent, you're going to be paying nine percent", said Jeffrey Harris. The group is going to court to stop the annexation election.

West Mobile resident Mark Wyatt supports annexation. "We don't do this in America. We don't stop elections. In fact we go to great lengths to help people all over the world to actually have elections", said Wyatt. Mobile Mayor Sam Jones calls the effort to stop the annexation a waste of time. "I think that if they made their choice, fine, voice their choice, but don't take away the right of other people's vote that's our position. We don't think their filing has any merit at all."

West Mobile residents who live in one of the four areas have until September 7th to register to vote. There will be four polling places on September 18th, one for each proposed area of annexation.

Area A: Friendship Baptist Church, 545 Cody Road North
Area B: Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama, 35 Cody Road North
Area C: Lakeside Lodge, 650 Cody Road South
Area D: Fellowship Hall, Covenant Church, 7150 Hitt Road, Mobile.

Polls will be open from 7am until 7pm.
