If you usually use Water Street for your commute, you couldn't this morning. The road was closed so construction crews could put a metal structure on top of the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel.
A spire with lights will top the metal grid. The finished look will be one similar to the RSA Tower. The spire will be added in the next week or so.
The City of Mobile's website said that they hoped to have Water Street back open by noon, but Kent Blackinton, general manager at the Riverview says he expects the construction to last a few hours longer.
