Streets around the Okaloosa County Fairgrounds and Eglin Air Force Base will be closed to traffic this afternoon while Vice President Dick Cheney is in Fort Walton Beach.

The motorcade from Eglin Air Force Base to the fairgrounds got underway just before Noon. Cheney is in the Panhandle to raise money for U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller.

Miller, a Republican from Chumuckla, is seeking a fourth term in office. His district covers Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties. He's running against three opponents, Democrats James E. Bryan and Robert Crockett Peterman II, and Independent Joe Roberts.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says the southbound lanes of Lewis Turner Boulevard will be closed temporarily between Eglin Air Force Base and the Fairgrounds this morning. Later this afternoon, the northbound lanes of Lewis Turner Boulevard will be closed when Cheney's motorcade returns to Eglin Air Force Base.
