The Tanner Williams Volunteer Fire Department only budgeted for about $4,000 thousand dollars this year for fuel for the fire trucks.
Fire Chief Rusty Holloway says if it looks like that amount is going to be over $7,000.
For some, that might not be much money, but for a volunteer fire department, every penny counts.
"Whenever you start looking at the fuel prices in conjunction with our annual insurance for all of our equipment which is 15 thousand dollar plus. Now that cover facilities, apparatus and everything. You're looking at half our budget for fuel and insurance alone," said Tanner Williams Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Rusty Holloway.
The volunteer fire department operates on a budget of about $60,000.
If record gas prices put the department way over budget, Chief Holloway says he has a back-up plan to keep things running smoothly.
