MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Sheriff's investigators are searching forclues today in the separate slayings of two Mobile County men this
week.
60-year-old Richard Land of Theodore was found dead at his home
shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday. District Attorney John Tyson
Junior said Land died of an apparent gunshot wound.
Tyson said Land's body was found in the front yard of the home
near Theodore High School and it's believed the shooting occurred
outside.
In nearby Grand Bay, the body of 67-year-old John Smith was
found Monday night in the hallway of his business on Old Pascagoula
Road.
Sheriff's spokesman Kate Johnson said detectives searched for
Smith's light green Dodge Caravan which was taken from the
property.
Family members said Smith had gone to the largely vacant Inkwell
Printers building where he once worked and apparently was attacked
by an intruder.
Concern for Smith's whereabouts began Monday night after his
wife did not find him cooking their usual afternoon supper.
