The MPD news release also says police will be checking seatbelts, child restraints and other safety features. They will also be checking to ensure that drivers are carrying registration, proof of insurance and drivers licenses.
DEW, It’s kind of hard to explain. I’ve been through a few road blocks and for the most part have been treated ok except for a butt head or two but you get that in all jobs. The thing is that I believe there should be just cause before stopping traffic and checking papers. If I commit a violation or have a light out or anything of that nature, check away, check everything, I’m all for it then and will give them all the cooperation they want. I’m a bit afraid that it might lead to warrantless searches of homes next. About them donuts, If I complained about them getting some fresh doughnuts It’d be because I’d be jealous. Man I love them fresh KRISPY KREME doughnuts. If they were getting fresh doughnuts that means they have good taste which puts me more on their side.
I don’t understand us southerners sometimes! We bitch and complain when the Police/Sheriffs DON’T do their jobs, but then you do the same thing when THEY DO do their jobs. The way I see it, as long as you driving around LEGALLY, you have nothing to worry about! I used to always ride around in circles just to aggravate the police, and make continual circles, why, BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE! Why do you care if they have a roadblock? Most of you are the same people who would have a field day if you see 2 cops parked at the Krispy Kreme NOT doing their jobs. The way I see it, if they get only 10 people for no insurance,1 for no license, and 1 DUI, those tickets paid for the officers standing there for the hour they will be posted. As far as it being entrapment, usually, the only people who worry about entrapment are drug dealers, if you not dealing drugs, you should be in the clear. Roadblocks ARE NOT entrapment, and Alabama’s entrapment laws SUCK anyway and are rarely enforced!!
there when the police arrived...And your comment about me being an Alabama Fan...Dunno...I just dont get it...Not sure what your point is there...Dont know...I guess i need a MBA along with a six-figure salary to understand...................Roll Tide
asda, If you truly have a MBA...You may want to try for a refund...because your positions and statements do not reflect that of a rational / educated person. You really have no position in your arguement...You are just anti-police and your statements reflect that...regardless of your sad attempts to cover that up. As for me reading up on things...no need...my years on this planet living in the real world and my years in the classroom have done just fine...IMO, people that spout off about their pay and alleged education / degrees is just a bunch of bologna anyways...really....why even make the statement?? Ill tell you why...In your little world, you think you are better than a public servant..in every aspect...And you catching three drunks as they tried to run you down...BS. total BS...I just dont believe it...Besides, if you caught them as you say...they would have been there when the police showed up...therefore no need to give the cop a tag number b/c the car would have been
asda..are you saying you are way smarter than a police officer just b/c you have your MBA and that you would know how to run the department? I think not. You probably wouldn’t even know where to start. These police officers that are doing the road blocks probably have no choice as they are told by their commanding officers what to do. If their chief tells them to do road blocks their whole shift then that is what they have to do. hhmmm..I guess maybe you should apply for Chief of Police in Mobile..I bet the crime rate would drop to 0% !
Don’t you think on a large scale operation, that those numbers are greatly increased? Joe Crook, driving his stolen car, with drugs, stolen weapons, gets stopped at a random roadblock-and bam, he gets to go to Metro instead of gunning down the clerk at the gas station, or selling his dope on the street. The only one’s that really need to worry about it, are those that aren’t following the law to begin with, or have something to hide.
PS-Roadblocks are not something new. I can remember skipping school back in the 80’s, and being stopped at a roadblock on Airport. Liked to scared the you know what out of me!
So if you are 100% legal, why worry? Why not applaud the efforts of trying to get those that aren’t legal to pay? I know, you will say, they will ignore the tickets, blah, blah, blah. But how about the sweeps they do, when they round up the people with unpaid tickets. Do you think they get out of jail free? No, they get to pay those outstanding tickets first, before they can be bonded out. Wouldn’t it be so much easier if people obeyed the law to begin with?
How many of the cars they stop are stolen? How many children do they find riding unrestrained-it is all I can do not to bless people out, that I see riding with their toddlers in the front seat, or an infant in their lap while driving. Sure, it may be “inconvenient,” but if the end result is that it saves a life-seatbelts, or gets a DUI off the road, or finds a person with outstanding warrants for worse than no insurance, isn’t it worth it? There are many times in “routine” traffic stops where these things happen. cont..
Have any of you checked the stats on how many violators other than traffic violations have been arrested? Including the ones where an arrest was made but cannot be published due to prosecution limitations? I think the road blocks are a vital part of policework. Did you ever stop to think that a crook may not be out tonight due to not knowing where the roadblock may be??? HMMMMMMMM?
I have all my paperwork for my car along with my pistol permitt so I am 100% legal.
I think the poster was concerned about a lack of probable cause, increasing government tyranny, and nothing mentioned about a search warrant. It looks like Basic Bill Of Rights stuff.
