MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - It may have been Thanksgiving Day, but Alabama state troopers were still on the job. Figures released today by the Department of Public Safety showed troopers issued 1,570 tickets Thursday. 847 were for speeding; 19 motorists were cited for DUI and another 156 were ticketed for not wearing seat belts.There were 67 traffic accidents on rural roads on Thanksgiving Day with one fatality recorded in Madison County. Since Monday's start of the "Take Back Our Highways" campaign, the number of traffic citations issued statewide totaled 10,492. The enforcement blitz ends Sunday.
