Alabama state troopers believe alcohol and speed may have played a role in a deadly crash that killed two young men from Fairhope.
The crash happened Tuesday night on County Road 32 near J. Larry Newton School.
Wednesday, friends of Russell Harbison, 20, and John Michael Crocker, 22, brought a picture, cross and flowers to the spot where they died.
"I didn't want to believe it," said Farnell Lease, a friend of Crocker. "I didn't believe it until I seen it myself on the news," she said.
Lease tells News Five Harbison was about to be a dad and Crocker had a baby sister.
Kevin Hemvfleng, Fairhope's fire chief, says Harbison was driving the Chevy Tahoe when he ran off the road and struck a utility pole. The vehicle flipped and crashed into a brick sign.
Harbison and Crocker were ejected from the SUV, and both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Alabama state troopers are waiting on a toxicology report to determine whether Harbison was intoxicated, but in a press release Wednesday afternoon, a trooper spokesman says evidence found at the scene suggests alcohol may have been involved.
According to court documents obtained by News Five, Harbison has had similar trouble in the past. The 20 year old was arrested two years ago for minor in possession of alcohol, and he also has at least two speeding tickets.

kev: i know, thats all we do is remember all the good times...it makes it easier! so what are the twins girls? boys? or both? i cant wait to find out what russell and i are having im so excited...but i also know that it will be a hard time....as well as a very happy time when the baby finally arrives

we are doin good thanks jennifer. yes the twins should be here within the next week or two. i cant wait. and im glad to hear yall are doin good. just remember the good times , those are the only things that matter.

BOONDOCK as mean as this may sound i hope one day you or your brother, wife or sister drinks 2 or 3 or even 4 beers and drives and when they get in an accident i hope the pain of losing someone so close or 2 people so close to you kills your sorry ass.... as for the rest of yall tanks so much for all your love and support. it means so much to me and my family...and i promise i am not that mean, but some people have no heart...they have to blame it on something so y not being drunk huh...you never know they could of swerved b/c of a dog....but since they had a couple of drinks that was the problem.

jennifermc: I do not know you or your brother or your boyfriend. I do however feel for you and your family. I cannot imagine the hell that you all have lived through and for that I am truly sorry. I have worked as a firefighter/EMT for 1y years and it is hard to loose someone so young in a senseless accident, BUT in the end you must remember that it was an ACCIDENT and though there may or may not have been contributing factors involved, nothing is going to bring them back. You now only have your memories of them and that is what you must hold on to. Remember the good times, remember the plans you had and do not let gossip and speculation ruin your memories of them. Everyone has opinions and everyone is free to express them but you do not have to read them or listen to them. Honor their memories and live your life to the fullest and let people see the all the good things that they did in their lives through you and your soon to be son/daughter. Hey Jennifer.. You shouldnt let what these people say on here get to your heart. You know the truth and thats all that matters. I hope you’re doing ok and just know they’re both watching down on you everyday..
