Alabama has set a new record for voter turnout in a presidential
primary. About 40 percent of Alabama's registered voters turned out
yesterday. The previous record had been 29 percent in 1992.
Chapman says the whole nation was watching Alabama's early
primary and voters responded in large numbers.
Unofficial returns indicate the turnout was slightly larger in
the Republican primary than in the Democratic primary. Mike
Huckabee won the Republican primary. Barack Obama was tops in the
Democratic primary.
