It’s located on the north side of the Causeway near Battleship Park.
Coast Guard spokesman Isaac Mahar tells News 5 the Coast Guard has taken over the cleanup because it was more than the boat owner could handle. Floating boons were first placed around the boat to keep the leaking fuel from escaping, but they have since been removed as part of the cleanup.
Mahar says the Coast Guard has pumped all fuel tanks. He says they are confident the fuel has not caused a major pollution problem, but passing motorists may notice a slight sheen on the water.
Mahar says because this is not a commercial waterway, the Coast Guard cannot force the owner to remove the boat.
But the boat owner is cooperating, and has told the Coast Guard he will do his best to remove the boat within the next few days.
