Nervous parents in Pensacola kept the majority of students at two high schools home, afraid violence from the weekend would spill onto the campus today.
17 year old Jamal Lee from Washington High School is charged with murder and attempted murder in a weekend shooting that killed 15 year old Daryl Williams from Pine Forest High School. Another teenager was injured. But even with an increased police presence at both schools, parents and students are nervous.
There was nothing normal about school at two Pensacola High Schools. Rumors of retaliation for a shooting over the weekend, kept half the students at Pine Forest and Washington High Schools at home.
"I just feel better with him being home today maybe tomorrow things will feel better," says a grandmother who just checked her grandson out of school.
Other students were check out of class. Sandra Jones rushed to Pine Forest after hearing rumors of violence, "I was with some friends and they told me about the shooting that happened over the weekend between pine forest and Escambia some shooting was suppose to go on so I'm like Oh no I'm coming to get my kid."
An increased police presence at both schools, both in visibility and in numbers. The Escambia County school system is not taking any chances according to spokesman Ronnie Arnold. "Investigated rumors and could not substantiate any credible threat however every precaution has been taken to insure the safety of students and staff."
In the meantime, the school system isn't the only one not taking any chances. "My biggest concern is that once this dies down or something whoever these kids are they're liable to catch the school off guard they're going to have a big shoot out that's what me and some of my friends are worried about," says Jones.
The school system isn't the only one not taking any chances. School spokesman Ronnie Arnold says a track meet scheduled tomorrow between the two schools has been cancelled as a precaution.

there is no excuse for these senseless murders.what is going on,that would make our youth fight and argue this hard, that someone has to end up DEAD.it does not make any sense.
