If Governor Bob Riley gets his way, families in the Mobile area and around the state will be getting a tax cut.
That was one of the proposals the governor announced Wednesday night in his State of the State address in Montgomery.
Riley proposed tax cuts to help stimulate the economy and help struggling families.
He said, "Our proposal builds on our earlier tax cut and will make the first $15,000 of income for a family of four tax-free. With this plan, 90 percent of Alabama's families will receive a tax cut."
The governor also talked about using tax incentives to help with the high cost of health care.
Riley said, "As we grow our economy, we can increase the number of Alabamians with access to affordable health care by offering targeted tax incentives for small businesses and their workers."
And the governor also urged lawmakers not to raise gasoline taxes.
Riley also singled out Bradley Byrne, the chancellor of Alabama's two year college system.
He said, "I have yet to meet anyone who isn't disgusted or embarrassed by the scandal in our community colleges. Thanks to Chancellor Bradley Byrne and our State Board of Education, we are ending the corruption."
Governor Riley also stressed the need for ethics reform and requiring full disclosure of all lobbyists spending.
