TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama football color analyst Ken
Stabler is taking a leave of absence for the upcoming season.
The university released a statement Friday saying that the
former Crimson Tide and NFL quarterback requested the leave.

"We regret that Kenny will not be part of our broadcast team during the
upcoming season, but accept and understand his decision," said Jim
Carabin, general manager of Crimson Tide Sports Marketing, the
multimedia rights holder for the University of Alabama athletics program
and producer of the Crimson Tide Sports Network. "We are entirely
supportive of Kenny and his family and feel that this is the right thing
for them at this time."

Stabler, who was arrested on a drunken driving charge June 8th in Robertsdale, said matters in his personal life demand his full attention. The latest arrest was at least the third time Stabler has been charged with DUI.

"It is with much regret that I will not be part of Crimson Tide football
broadcasts this coming year," Stabler says, "but there are matters in my
personal life that demand my full attention at this time. I will deeply
miss being part of the Crimson Tide Sports Network team and the
wonderful interaction that I always enjoy with the many Tide fans
throughout the season."

A star quarterback at Alabama in the 1960s, he led the Oakland
Raiders to a Super Bowl title in 1977. He also played for the
Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints during a 15-year NFL career.
Stabler has been the Tide's color analyst for 10 years. He will
be replaced by Tom Roberts for the 2008 season.

Tom Roberts, longtime member of the Crimson Tide Sports Network crew,
will take over Stabler's color analyst duties for the 2008 football
season.

I thought that was “ Birds of a finger”. HaHa

You continue to surprise me! I would never have thought you would be one to get into that paddling and being paddled. As for that grin on his face, Of The many drunk faces I’ve seen, most had this smile or grin and were feeling no pain until much later. I don’t think we’re passing judgement on here, only a judge or jury can do that, It’s called opinions. You do that no doubt every day and every one’s entitled to it. If you think some one’s not entitled to it, click that Ignore Member button on the bottom so you don’t get so bitter and upset. Physical appearances I don’t put much stock in but it can be an indicator of one thing or another. I am my AUTHORITY on morals for myself and use them to select my friends, You know that” birds of a feather” thing. I gotta go and look for something to call breakfast. Catch ya later, Bye!

DILLIGAF! NOPE, I guess if he paid my bills, I would care.I guess if I were a hard core Bama fan, I would care. But when it comes down to it, he’s just another alcoholic football fan with a problem, that he may need help to deal with. I guess on his 3rd DUI, which if I’m not mistaken, makes it a FELONY DUI, would be a great time to decide he needs some personal time. As for him no longer being color analyst on the Football Games. GOOD!! HE WAS WASHED OUT ANYWAY!!!! I will however say in his defense, that Alabama, should not be worried about his personal life on the job. If he didn’t come into work intoxicated,IT’S NONE OF THEIR FREAKING BUSINESS!!!!

Yep! I get the picture. Some feel they are the authotity on morals and physical appearence. Ain’t seen many “hung over” people w/ a smile on their face. Passing judgement on a person before they have seen the judge is NOT the way society was designed to work. To many people have been indoctrinated into the liberal way of thought, they now feel that line of irrational thinking is normal. Could be the same people who feel the need to comment on every single news article posted on this site. You know who you are.
Drinking and driving is stupid! Thing is far to many people need not drink or drive to show their stupidity. Court adjourned, would anyone like to step into my chambers and be paddled?

There you go MeAmerican! your getting the picture now, no pun intended , It’s not his best shot! He looks a lot like a person with a hang over. I said all that to say, If you care the least little bit about a person that in your opinion is headed on a path of self destruction you say something, Intervene some how. To ignore a problem is the worse thing you can do. The SNAKE and BROADWAY JOE is two of my most favorites ever on the field and I would really hate to see anyone self destruct.

MeAmerican you need to quit telling everyone to get a life and get a life! lol

Drinking and driving is stupid and it can get innocent people killed.

The worst picture that can be found is the one that will be used. On a guess, this is not his normal look. You can’t judge any person on how they look in a mug shot.

And you said all that to say what?

It’s a wide gap between Image driven and a little pride in ones appearance ! Snake is still looked upon with admiration and as a role model for a lot his fans and so his standards have to be a bit higher than the average person walking the streets. You are correct in saying he’s innocent until proven guilty ON THIS PRESENT CHARGE, But to turn a blind eye on his past actions would be doing him no favor. I’m sorry that you don’t think adults should obey the laws but that’s just the way it is, if you want to stay out of jail. If I didn’t care what happened to the SNAKE I wouldn’t even bother reading about him or commenting on him, but I do, so I do. I will always give my opinion to someone I see that might get into trouble for their actions or on the wrong path, if I didn’t care I wouldn’t say a word. To Ignore the actions of some one is the worst thing to do if you care what happen to them.

Not everybody is image driven. Still Mr. Stabler is innocent until proven guilty. All this speculation about what a grown man “needs” to do is laughable. How about Get a life and quit telling people how to live theirs
