ROBERTSDALE, Ala. (AP) Kenny Stabler says he is looking forward to his day in court. The former Alabama and NFL quarterback was arrested over the weekend in Robertsdale and charged with driving under the influence. Stabler made his first public comments Tuesday. He issued a statement saying he appreciates the support he has received from colleagues and friends. Stabler says he looks forward to the facts being presented and being able to resolve the matter in court. He was pulled over for a traffic offense at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Alabama 49 and spent 13 hours in jail.

I did that about 45 years ago,Drove after drinking heavily at a favorite watering hole. Couldn’t hardly find my way home and went all the way home at a blazing 15 or 20 mph. It would have been a dead give away if there had been any police around. I was so confused and disorientated that it scared me bad. It hasn’t happened again since then and never will. I don’t even drink any more or take anything for pain or what ever if I think it might dull my senses. That one time was enough to see the light and I wonder why these repeat offenders haven’t came to the same conclusion and believe me, being 18 or 19 and in the far east and able to buy what ever you wanted to drink, I did a lot of drinking. I guess they have no self control or fore sight.

There’s a real simple solution to putting an end to all the DUI’s and drunk driving issues. Make the FIRST offense an automatic 5 or 10 years. WHY KEEP GIVING THEM CHANCES???? CASE CLOSED!! Then if you still have a bunch of DUI’s you’ll know for sure those people NEED to be locked up! Let me tell you, on average I probably drink MORE beer and rum than any person in this forum, HOWEVER I can honestly say, I NEVER drink and drive, or drive AFTER drinking. There just is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for drinking while intoxicated. If you check into it, almost all people that have killed someone in a DUI or DWI accident are habitual offenders. I have lost several Friends and close relatives due to drunk drivers, and I can tell you, one persons buzz/high, is NEVER worth another persons life.

You don’t need to be a football player to walk away from a DUI in Baldwin County just a good lawyer. My ex was stopped in Robertsdale and was more than twice the limit her lawyer got it filed, less than a year later she was stopped in Foley again more than twice the limit and got that one reduced to parking in the street. Until the courts start doing their job, no one will be safe.

SORRY ABOUT THAT! I got off topic Momentarily, It’s a preprogrammed automatic response when I hear football, BAMA, and LSU mentioned in the same sentence. ROOOL--- I caught my self that time. MY BAD!

Hats off to you Wentworth. I totally agree with you. Just because he is this huge celebrity does not give him the right to get into trouble and not pay the consequences. Oh sure he spent 13 hours in jail but, will that stop him from doing it again? I doubt it! After all, this was his third DUI so I see no stopping him in the future unless he kills someone or his self in a DUI accident. I don’t watch Bama football unless they are playing LSU simply because I don’t like Nick Saban.

If he gets away with this again he will kill someone sooner or later.

It’s too bad if anybody has a drinking problem like this. But, come on, three arrests. He should be in prison; I don’t care if he’s been in 10 super bowls
or bows down over Bear Bryant’s grave. An Alabama college student couldn’t get away with this. If they continue to let him do commentary for the games this fall, I will never watch or listen to another Alabama football game. This God-like awe and “get away with anything” mentality just because he played for Alabama is pure ignorance. But then, we are in Alabama.
