Baldwin County's beaches will be one the busiest spots in Alabama this weekend as local spring-breakers head to Pleasure Island. But local lifeguards are warning people to watch out for dangerous rip currents and marine life."We've got the red flags and the purple flags flying," say Melvin Shepard with the City of Orange Beach. Shepard is also a certified lifeguard. "The red flag means dangerous rip currents and weak swimmers should stay out of the water. The purple flag means dangerous marine life has been spotted. We've had the Portuguese man-of-war invade our area for the past 11 days."
Shepard says the red and purple flags could fly all weekend.
"Just monitor the flag system," says Shepard. "And use common sense."
Mobile and Baldwin County students are off next week for Spring Break.
