MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A federal appeals court has asked a
federal judge in Montgomery to decide if former Alabama Governor
Don Siegelman should be released from prison while his conviction
is being appealed.
Siegelman and former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy were taken
to prison immediately when U.S. District Judge William Fuller
sentenced them in June on bribery and other charges. Siegelman and
Scushy have both appealed to the 11th Circuit asking that they be
freed while their case is being appeealed.
The 11th Circuit has now returned that issue to Fuller.

Well, of course, we should let him out! He has money! He’s famous! He was once our governor! Isn’t that an automatic get out of jail free card? Isn’t that the way our legal system operates? He who has the big bucks walks free? Give me a break! The bottom line is, he broke the law. He should serve his time and if his appeal is granted, then, and only then, should he be released.

Why give any special treatment?  If we let everyone out that was appealing we would not need jails.
