CINCINNATI (AP) - Family members say the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworthwas moved Saturday from an Ohio nursing home to a Birmingham
hospital to receive free medical care.
The 85-year-old civil rights pioneer, who suffered a mild stroke
in September, will undergo stroke therapy treatment at Lakeshore
Hospital in Birmingham -- the city where he led the fight against
segregation in the 1950s.
His oldest daughter, Patricia Massengill, says Birmingham will
be good for him because he has sisters, nieces and nephews there,
and plenty of friends.
Shuttlesworth has lived in Cincinnati since 1961. He was in
extended care from September through January, and at a nursing home
since then.
Massengill said her father is unable to walk and has some memory
problems.
