The Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS) experienced a sanitary sewer overflow Thursday, Oct. 25, at Twelve Mile Creek off Museum Drive. Approximately 7,500 gallons of untreated sewage entered the creek as a result of a broken sewer drain. MAWSS crews have stopped the overflow and set up a bypass while repairs are being made to the line. The cause of the break is under investigation.Short URL: http://wkrg.com/a/6328/
Dr. Bernard Eichold, Health Officer, Mobile County Health Department, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this sewer overflow. Individuals who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly. Dr. Eichold also advises area residents to take precautions when using Twelve Mile Creek for recreational purposes. All seafood harvested in the affected areas should be thoroughly cooked before consumption. Individuals should wash their hands after cleaning any fish or other seafood and also before preparing food.

Why does this happen year after year? Besides the public is anyone in the MAWSS in the hot seat? Come on people we need to get mad about the crap being dumped into our water ways. From MAWSS to all the chemical plants. When will the dumping stop? And who is getting paid to overlook this dumping?
