A disappointment for people in Mobile County and Baldwin County hoping to get insurance reform bills passed in the Alabama Legislature.
Mobile Republican Senator Ben Brooks began a filibuster hoping to convince the Democratic leadership to hear the bills, but he was cut short.
Back in February, Senator Brooks bills were approved by a Senate Committee.
Since then, the bill has not gone anywhere.
Supporters of a video gambling bill have been using stalling tactics to delay other Alabama Senate bills.
News 5's Steve Alexander went to Montgomery to see the insurance reform debate.

Senator Lowell Barron: "I live 400 miles from the coast. I don't have to be for your insurance bill."
A Mobile County Senator takes up the fight to get insurance changed in Alabama.

peachieblue ............please explain to me why people build their homes in a swamp?  —- They just do because that is where they are from and it is home.  I know people who have lived in Orange Beach all of their life.  Just because the price of houses have gone up do they no longer deserve to live there?

asda…...please explain to me why people would build their homes on a sandbar???  My question is how many times have these people had to rebuild their homes due to hurricanes, year after year.  I am from New Orleans so I understand the complaints from those whose homes were, for the first time, destroyed.  I am talking about the people who continuously rebuild in the same spot over and over again.

The funny thing is how many of those multi million dollar mansions on the beach are owned by insurance company CEOs and managers?

peachieblue you must not live on the coast if you did then you would have seen after Katrina all the people in south Mississippi and south Alabama that did not live in million dollar homes but in homes that they have lived in for over 20 years get nothing from the insurance company.  Yet they were quick to take that monthly payment for the last 20 years but when they were really needed they did not pay to help them rebuild.  How would you feel if you paid your monthly insurance bill for 20 years and finally have to make a claim and they say sorry too bad that was done by water not wind and we don’t cover that.

If an insurance company agrees by contract to give you coverage no matter where you live then shouldn’t they be required to honor that contract when something happens? The insurance companies “tab” comes from the premiums paid by those living in their “multi-million dollar mansions”.

fair, moral, insurance coverage?????? you have got to be kidding me!!!  If people would quit living on the beach and replacing their multi-million mansions on the insurance company’s tab maybe this wouldn’t even be a problem to begin with.

Just wonder what type of insurance coverage was received when the tornados hit this year in North Alabama.  I suppose it is more important to have video gambling machines in the state instead of fair moral insurance coverage.  Beginning to sound like Washington DC talk.  Your right ASDA, election time will be intresting.  Reminds me of my the saying…..Once a crook, always a crook!

Well, this is something that needs to be done, and Brooks is making sure that the rest of the state understands our needs. Glad to see our former councilman fighting for in the state senate. Too bad he is filibustering and that the Senate as a whole is a circus.

I am so sick of the Alabama Senate they do not seem to get anything passed.  I for one will remember this come election time and will be voting for all new people.  With the Insurance and then taxing the rebate checks.  I for one am sick of them all.
