In a letter sent today, Shelby tells Boeing Chairman W. James McNerney that quote "to publicly assert that Mobile, Alabama is a risky choice to build the new Air Force tanker is ignorant and completely unfounded." Shelby goes on to say that "I consider your company's comments to be both innapropriate and grossly inaccurate in their characterization of the dedicated people of Mobile and Alabama." The war of words surrounds the 40 billion dollar Air Force tanker contract. Boeing is going head-to-head with Northrop Grumman and EADS. If the Northrop team wins the bid, the tankers would be built at Mobile's Brookley Field.
