A new route will be in place for people who drive one section of Schillinger Road in West Mobile.
Starting Tuesday, county work crews will replace drainage pipes on Schillinger Road at Airway Park Drive.
All lanes will be closed.
A detour from Airport Boulevard and Old Shell Road to Cody Road will be in place.
The project will continue through Thursday.

I agree that the county workers should NOT being doing the cities work.... but, on the other hand look at how long the city has been working on S.Florida St. and Dauphin St. The county is going to get it done faster. Maybe the county should bill the city for doing their work!

It was rigged BIG time and Jones accomplished something Dow never could. There were a lot of strategy meetings that took place and a lot of maps were drawn up. They looped in areas around the business areas that were favorable to Jones and his plan. Not a one of the businesses had a say in the matter, because not a single registered voter lives at Wal Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, etc......

If something like that was done for the purpose of an election, it would have been called gerrymandering and it would have been fought all the way to the supreme court. Not sure why the annexation was not given closer scrutiny.

I guess I am stuck in the past and forget that Schillnger Road is not considered a highway. I am sort of wondering when we will see all these improvements from the Annexation. I still believe it was rigged so that it would pass for the sections with the largest tax base. They get all this new money and where does it go?

I’m not sure of the intricacies of road maintenance, but I would imagine it is a shared expense. City’s do not take over the maintenance of Interstate Highways when they cross city limits, The county takes care of county roads and highways. The city probably contributes funds to those portions of the roads that are within the city limits.

I think Schillinger Rd. is also County Highway 31.

I was wondering why are County Work crews doing this repair and not the city? I thought the whole point of the Annexation of West Mobile was for the City to provide services? Why are the people of the county picking up the bill for this repair in the new portion of Mobile?
