New 5 viewers have debated on wkrg.com whether the gun a student brought to Clark School of Math, Science and Technology was loaded or not. Mobile County School Spokesperson Nancy Pierce says the gun, found in the student's book bag, was loaded. Click play to hear to bonus sound from Tuesday's interview.

SumOneILove,
Are you crazy? I have comdemmed his actions as well as his mother. I am not trying in the least to minimize what he did. What he did was a very bad thing and he will be punished. The whole thing that started this is the WKRG got one of the fact wrong in the case. They were reporting what Nancy Pierce said and she was informed of the incident incorrectly. I just wanted them to clarify and correct what they said. I am in no way trying to marginalize what he did or the severity of it. As parents we try and raise our kids the right way and teach them right from wrong. Sometimes they dissapoint us, like this kid did. All you can do is hope that he learns from this and goes on to make something out of himself. I really hope someday your kids don’t disappoint you in someway.

BamaBob, they did not recontact school officials they just are restating what was on their tape yesterday.

I just want to clarify for those of us who do not realize this already: The interview with Mrs. Pierce that was used in this update was not in response to this web post debate. It was a play back from last nights story. I just dont want people to mistake the situation. WKRG did not RE interview Mrs. Pierce. She was not approached a second time to see if she had only misspoken. Its is a strong possiblity that this is the case. In the moment Mrs. Pierce probably slipped up and did not even think twice about it. NO harm intended. WKRG did do a good job on TRYING to help clarify the facts, i will give them that much. They TRIED to address our concerns and questions. I know that in the end this will all get straightened out once more information can be released from the Police. But it is obvious that this is a mistake, because Concernedparent is right. loaded gun= felony, unloaded with clip BESIDE it or not= misdemeanor. When the kids charges are revealed i guess we will know the truth?

Concernedparent,

Apparently I was writing my reply in response to this story, as you were posting. I did miss your comment. I still thank wkrg for at least following up and this quickly (although perhaps more follow up needs to be done and more facts uncovered.) If you read one of my earlier posts, I believe on the other thread, my concern was for the facts and truth, something I could relate to based on another story that I believe is lacking in facts and truth. It would be great to hear from the PD. Surely they can verify whether the weapon was loaded or not. But regardless, it was wrong to bring it to school.

We learn from our mistakes though. Goodness knows, I’ve made plenty in my lifetime, and my children make mistakes too. I hope we will soon get all the facts.

Unless that clip was under lock and key at some location distant to the gun, I don’t see how your claim makes any difference as far as intent is concerned.  What would it take to slide the clip into the gun?  30 seconds on a bad day?

It appears to me that WKRG has reported what was conveyed to them by school officials.  When those facts were questioned, they once again spoke with officials and the story was confirmed.  Maybe you should contact the reporter directly, give her your name, number, position, etc. and she can use you as a source that contradicts the official statements.

The kid that did it is not innocent. The point is it is being reported that the gun was LOADED, when in fact it was not. That is a huge difference. It is the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony. It also further demonstrates that he had no ill intent toward anyone. As for the other kids he showed I find it curious that more isn’t made about that. There were many kids in the school that knew about it way before he even got to the school. I find it disturbing that of the many kids that knew about it it took almost until school was over for someone to come forward when it was known hours in advance. If you had been reading my post I have never said he was innocent and he accepts full responsibility for the incident. What this discussion is about the about WKRG’s lack of fact checking in this case and the misreporting that has occured not only on this station but other ones as well. WKRG has a responsibilty to the public trust to report the correct facts.

WKRG it looks like you will have to now find out the rest of the rest of the story!

Somehow it is supposed to make this better that the loaded clip was not in the gun at the time it was found?  How do you know nothing was in the gun’s chamber?

I’m really not understanding this discussion.  Kid has gun, kid has loaded clip, kid takes both to school, kid shows weapon to kids at bus stop, kid shows weapon to kids at school and then gets nailed.

Are you saying that the kid is the innocent in all of this, because the kids at the bus stop did not speak up immediately?  What is your point?  I’m missing it altogether.
