State Superintendent of Education Joseph B. Morton describes Everett embodying the essence of an educators who is both engaging and inspiring to her students. Everett was the runner up to Roy Hudson, director of theatre at Shades Valley High School in the Jefferson County School System. Hudson was named the 2008-2009 Alabama Teacher of the Year. Hudson automatically qualifies for national teacher of the year.

Congratulations, Ms. Everett. In order to be an ambassador for the Public School System, are they taking our Best and Brightest teacher out of the classroom and away from the students? If you will be training adult teachers for the next year, that would seem to be the case. It is an honor for you but such a loss for our children for the next year. May God bless you and keep you no matter what you are doing. You are doing an excellent job.
