When deputies arrived on scene, they found that they were dealing with a subject that was armed and barricaded inside of his residence. Family members that were present at the residence prior to the deputies arrival stated that the adult male subject inside became irrational after drinking and taking some unknown medications. The family members were able to leave the residence unharmed. As deputies arrived, one shot was heard from inside the residence. Deputies attempted to make contact with the subject through a variety of ways, but were unsuccessful. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called to the scene along with crisis negotiators. After numerous attempts were made to contact the suspect, the SWAT team entered the residence through a rear door and found that the subject was deceased inside with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
