To be first in line at this Best Buy, you had to start standing in line at 10 o’clock Thanksgiving morning. A small group took up the challenge and waited for a long time to get their hands on vouchers redeemable for low cost electronics. As temperatures dropped overnight, you also had to bundle up.“It's been cold,” says Stanford Powell. “Real cold.” Stanford was about 25th in line. He wasn’t able to score a voucher this morning. Some shoppers began selling their vouchers before the store opened. This lead to a scuffle that had to be broken up by Spanish Fort Police. Michael Johnson defends the selling of vouchers.
“We been here since 10 o'clock yesterday morning, waiting for this,” says Johnson. “We were putting in our time just like everyone else who sells it on Ebay.” After the doors opened at 5 AM things seemed to run smoothly.
“It kicks off the Christmas Season,” says bargain shopper Peter Parker. “It's always cold on Black Friday, meeting people like these people, I just met them 13 hours ago.”
