A Baldwin County man faces some serious charges after leading police on a high speed chase.
A routine traffic stop took a dangerous turn when Thomas Murphy runs from a Loxley police officer. Passing motorists and running some off the road, Murphy heads to the intersection of County Road 64 and Highway 181. The chase that started in Loxley was already in Fairhope. It has only taken five minutes.
"That's incredible, that's pretty fast," says Don Whiteis. He and Christian Augustin were working,"There was just a flurry of cop cars coming in everywhere," he says.
Once Murphy figured out there was only one way in and one way out, he ditched the car in some woods. It would be another half hour before he would be caught.
"I seen the officer drive by and gives me the okay they caught the guy," says Whiteis.
It just doens't make sense to Augustin. "I just don't see the point when you get pulled over you got three police departments after you might as well pull over you're not going to get away."
Murphy would later tell police he ran, because he was scared. He faces a host of charges including reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
