places mandates on local school boards on how to go about hiring
superintendents.
The bill also mandates requirements for the state school board
when hiring a chancellor for the two-year college system or a
superintendent for K-12 schools.
Riley said Friday he feels the bill was aimed at the state
board's decision to hire his choice for a two-year college
chancellor, former Republican state Sen. Bradley Byrne. One of
Byrne's first actions as chancellor was to get the board to adopt a
policy restricting two-year college employees from serving in the
Alabama Legislature after 2010.
The Legislature can override the governor's veto when lawmakers
return for the final day of the regular session on May 19.
