session of the Alabama Legislature to begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The governor ordered lawmakers into special session to approve
an education budget.
Lawmakers ended the 2008 regular session Monday night without
passing a budget to fund K-12 and higher education in Alabama for
the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1.
The governor says lawmakers need to pass the budget quickly so
that school systems can avoid laying off teachers.
Riley included in his list of priorities for the special session
a bill to establish a "rainy day" savings account for the General
Fund budget and another to expand the "rainy day" account for the
education budget.
