With over 35-hundred homes, Lake Forest in Daphne is Alabama's largest subdivision and one of the largest developments in the U-S. The Eastern Shore subdivision could get even bigger if the Daphne City Council approves a zoning change requested by a local developer."Lake Forest is big enough as it is," says resident Weston Baker. "The traffic is horrible, it's crazy and it's a madhouse already. We don't need anymore people in here."
A local developer wants to build a new apartment complex in the heart of Lake Forest. Grand Pointe Apartments L.L.C. has asked for a zoning change from R-3 single-family residential, to R-4 multi-family residential. The company wants to build a 120-unit apartment complex near the Lake Forest Golf Course.
"Adding another 120 units would be like throwing gasoline on a fire," says Lake Forest resident Michael Sager. Sager is also a member of the Daphne Search and Rescue Team. "It's hard enough responding to emergencies right now in Lake Forest. Putting more people in that subdivision could spell disaster."
The Daphne City Council is holding a public hearing on the zoning change Monday night. The council could approve the change at their next meeting.
