http://www.yourredcross.orgCharlie Brower and Jay Lyons will spend the next three weeks in hurricane-battered Texas. Brower and Lyons are volunteers with the American Red Cross chapter in Northwest Florida. The men are no strangers to helping disaster victims. Brower and Lyons have given a decade of service to this important, non-profit organization.
"I enjoy it," says Lyons. "I'm retired and since I have the time, why not give someone a hand when they need it?"
"I don't like seeing this happen in the U-S," says Brower. "Disasters happen all over the world, but when it hits home, it hurts."
Brower and Lyons caught a flight out of Pensacola Regional Airport Tuesday. The men will land in Dallas and will be dispatched to hard-hit areas of the Lone Star State. Brower and Lyons are providing, financial assistance, food and shelter to victims of Hurricane Ike. The Red Cross of Northwest Florida has already sent five volunteers to the Houston area. At least five more men and women will be deployed later this week.
