The Jackson County Port Authority leases the 437-acre, man-made
island from the state.
On yesterday (Wednesday), the Port Authority awarded a $571,471
contract for mechanical and electrical work on four buildings and
interior renovations of two others.
Hurricane Katrina damaged the facility in August 2005.
The Navy officially closed the station as part of the Department

While some buildings are still vacant, other tenants include the
U.S. Coast Guard, the FBI and Keesler Federal Credit Union.
