Weather has caused several delays for Mardi Gras festivities this year, but revellers say it hasn't dampened their spirits.
City officials had to postpone tonight's (Thursday) Mystic Stripers parade after the National Weather Service issued a severe weather warning.
"There's potential for some pretty strong rain and winds and some lightning and first and foremost is the safety of parade goers, the masters themselves and the police officers too,"Said Chief Phillip Garrett with the Mobile Police Department.
The Vice President of the Mystic Stripers says in the 69 years they've been together they've been rained out only once before. But it doesn't mean the party's going to stop."In all the years that Mardi Gras has been going on in excess of 140 years here in Mobile, organizations have been rained on before and it's never stopped the revelry," Said the Vice President, who chooses to remain anonymous because of tradition.
Meantime, folks who came out to see the parade say they're taking the party indoors, where we spotted several, at the Ramada Hotel in downtown."This is the first time this has happened in 30 years that we've been with the Stripers," Said Shirley Smith. While she adds, "but we're going to have a good time."
The Mystic Stripers parade is scheduled for 6:30 tomorrow (Friday) evening.
