Late this evening one of two state senate bills aimed at addressing the Gulf Coasts insurance problems was passed. After repeated pleas by Senator Ben Brooks for the Senate to address the issue, Senate Bill 3 passed with a unanimous 30-0 vote. The bill allows a captive insurance company to provide personal motor vehicle or home owner's insurance coverage.

Shortly after the vote took place Senator Brooks spoke with News 5 anchor Mel Showers about the progress and what this means for our area. Another bill which has yet to be addressed, Senate Bill 5, would create an Alabama Coastal Insurance Authority made up of all insurers to write property insurance in the state of Alabama.
