Police swarmed the Starbucks parking lot near Mobile's Colonial Mall Bel Air around 9:00 this morning. Investigators are not releasing much information about the incident, but a represenative for the coffee giant says there was an attempted robbery, and police managed to stop the men before they made it inside the store.
"We are thankful that no robbery occurred and that no one was hurt," said the company representative in a statement to News Five.
In a news release from the Mobile Police Department, a police spokesperson said officers made this morning's arrests after they spotted a black Chevy Lumina that matched the description of a vehicle being sought in recent retail robberies. The news release did not mention whether the men were targeting Starbucks.
Two men were taken into custody in the Starbucks parking lot.
One of the men, Anthomas Kennard Carr, 26, is being held at the Mobile Metro Jail. Carr, a convicted felon who served time in prison for conspiracy to commit robbery and receiving stolen property, is charged with posession of a firearm. The second suspect was questioned and released.
This is the incident this week in less than a three mile stretch of Airport Boulevard. Wednesday, The CD Warehouse was held up one mile away and 48 hours earlier a Smoothie King was hit two miles away.
