Mobile police have recovered the two assault rifles, a Romanian-made AK-47 and a Chinese SKS, used in the shooting of a 6-year-old boy.

Six-year-old A.J. Ezell was hit by three bullets Monday night when someone opened fire on Gloria York Avenue in Toulminville. A.J., his mother, Sherrell Allen, and his 8-year-old sister were sitting at a stop sign when the bullets started flying.

The intended target, 23-year-old Tyrone Smith, who was sitting in another car, was hit in the face and upper chest.

Police arrested three men in connection with the shooting on Wednesday. A fourth suspect, 25-year-old Kendun Buchanan, was booked into Mobile Metro Jail just before 1:00 a.m. Friday. Prosecutors say at least one of the guns used in the shooting belongs to Buchanan.

This morning, a judge denied bond for Buchanan, 23-year-old Cedric Morrissette, 21-year-old Trevante Smith and 28-year-old Nicholas Roberson. All four are charged with two counts of attempted murder.

We learned new details about the case during that bond hearing. Prosecutors say the shooting can be traced back to a jealous ex-boyfriend, Cedric Morrissette.

Morrissette's ex-girlfriend is now dating Tyrone Smith. Prosecutors say Morrissette and Trevante Smith went to Tyrone's house Monday and banged on the door. When he did not answer, they kicked in an A/C window unit. That's when Tyrone chased them off with a gun.

Prosecutors say Morrissette and Trevante Smith returned later that night with Roberson, Buchanan and the two assault rifles. Tyrone Smith and his girlfriend took off in separate cars. The four men eventually ran into Tyrone Smith at a stop sign on Gloria York Avenue and opened fire.

Sherrell Allen, her son A.J. and her AJ's 8-year-old daughter were on their way home from Vacation Bible School and just happened to be at the same stop sign. Prosecutors say their car was caught in the crossfire and was hit at least 10 times.

A.J. is still recovering at USA Medical Center. He's expected to be okay. Tyrone Smith is waiting for doctors to remove the bullet from his face.

You'll hear from AJ's little sister tonight on News 5 at 5:00 and 6:00.
